For dog, cat and horse breeders

Breeding records that live on your computer.

Pedigrees, heat cycles, litters, health records, buyers and money, kept in one place that works with or without an internet connection. Free to start. Your data stays yours.

What it keeps track of

From heat to handover.

KennelKeeper replaces the spreadsheet, the folder of paper and the two other programs. It is built for the whole life of an animal, from the heat that produced it to the buyer who took it home.

  1. Step 1

    HeatHeatEstrus

Log a heatheatcycle and see the day she is on and her fertile window, then work out the due date from the mating.

  2. Step 2

    The pairing

Pedigree charts with Wright's coefficient of inbreeding, worked out from your own records, and a test-mating tool that looks five generations behind the pairing you are weighing up.

  3. Step 3

Whelping and the litterKittening and the litterFoaling

Record each litterlitterfoaling, how many were born and how many survived, and who is waiting on it. Each puppykittenfoal can then have a record of its own, weights and all.

  4. Step 4

    Health

Vaccinations, medications, lab results and weights per animal. Anything coming due in the next 30 days is flagged on your home screen.

    Health records

The health center for one animal, with tabs for vaccines, cycles, labs and DNA, procedures and weight, and a vaccination history listing a rabies shot with its lot number. The health center for one animal, with tabs for vaccines, cycles, labs and DNA, procedures and weight, and a vaccination history listing a rabies shot with its lot number.

  5. Step 5

    Buyers and deposits

On the Breeder plan: a waitlist from first enquiry to going home, deposits logged as income as they arrive, and income and expenses tagged to the animal or litter they belong to.

    Buyers and money

  6. Step 6

    The pedigree and the handover

Print a pedigree on any plan or save it as a PDF on Breeder, and export an animal with its ancestors as a Heritage Passport file that KennelKeeper reads back in.

One app, three names

Pick your species. The whole app changes its words.

A cat breeder should not have to read "kennel" and "whelping" all day. Choose dogs, cats or horses and KennelKeeper becomes CatteryKeeper or EquineKeeper: the name on the door, the labels on every screen, the registries it asks for, even the vaccines it reminds you about.

Mixed household? All three species can live in one registry, and the filters know the difference.

Inside the app

Six screens, as they really look.

The live Web Edition, running in a browser tab with a sample kennel loaded. Not a mockup. The whole app also repaints for evenings, so the version you use in a bright whelping room is the one you already know.

The KennelKeeper home screen: two overdue vaccines, a whelping due in eleven days, two animals in heat with the day of the cycle, and buttons to add an animal, a health entry, a cycle or an expense. The KennelKeeper home screen: two overdue vaccines, a whelping due in eleven days, two animals in heat with the day of the cycle, and buttons to add an animal, a health entry, a cycle or an expense.

Overdue vaccines at the top in red, a whelping that is due, who is in heat and what day she is on. Under that, the four things you log most, one tap each.

Local-first

Your records live on your computer. Not on ours.

Most breeding software is a website with your data on someone else's server. If the company folds or you stop paying, so does your access. KennelKeeper is built the other way round: the master copy is on your device, and the cloud is an optional extra.

  • Works without internet

Records are written to your device first and read from it. A dead spot at the show ring changes nothing.

  • Export whenever you like

The whole database to CSV or JSON, on every plan including the free one. Open it in Excel, or move to something else.

  • AI only when you ask

The scanner and the writing assistant send only the document or text you asked about, only when you ask: to Google Gemini, or to the provider whose key you added. KennelKeeper never uses your records to train anything and never sells data.

  • Cancel and keep everything

Stop paying and the paid features switch off. Your records stay on your device, readable and exportable. Nothing is held hostage.

A record is written to your device first. Optional sync on the Breeder and Signature plans copies it to your other devices, with an automatic backup. Separately, when you ask the scanner or the writing assistant, the one document or text you asked about goes to the AI provider. KennelKeeper never sells your records or uses them to train anything.

Sync runs on Google's Firebase and is encrypted in transit and at rest on Google's servers. It is not end-to-end encrypted, so we do not describe it that way.

How it works

Pedigrees and COI

A pedigree you would be glad to send a buyer.

Every animal in KennelKeeper has a pedigree chart and Wright's coefficient of inbreeding, worked out from the records you keep. Print it on any plan, or save it as a PDF on Breeder. The sample below, generated from made-up dogs, shows what the coefficient is made of.

More about KennelKeeper

Brian Brixon

Colorado Springs, Colorado

I'm Brian. Over the years I have bred and owned Manx, Birman, Siamese and Oriental Shorthair cats, and Shetland Sheepdogs, Golden Retrievers and Havanese. So when KennelKeeper renames itself for cats, that is not a marketing idea. I needed it.

In the nineties my records lived in CatTrax and CompuPed. After that it was Excel and Word for a long time, and a folder of paper for everything else. I have also spent twenty-five years hand-coding websites, most of them for kennel clubs and breed associations, which is how I ended up thinking about this problem for a living.

I started building KennelKeeper in December 2025 with three rules: the records belong to the breeder, it has to be easy, and it has to work alongside the tools people already use rather than replace them. It is a one-person project. When you email, you get me, and when something is wrong I would rather hear about it than not.

Questions

Things people ask before they start.

All questions

Is the free plan really free, or is it a trial?

It is free, with no time limit and no cap on animals or litters. It is meant for a household with a few animals or a first litter. The paid plans add cloud sync and backup, the document scanner without an AI key of your own, the buyer and money tools, and on Signature a website feed for the site you already have.

Compare the plans

Where are my records actually stored?

On your own device: in your browser's database for the Web Edition, or inside the Windows app. On the Breeder and Signature plans a copy also syncs to the cloud so your other devices can see it, and that copy doubles as your backup. On any plan you can export everything to CSV or JSON whenever you like.

How it works

What happens to my data if I cancel?

Nothing is deleted. Your records stay on your device, readable and exportable. The paid features switch off and your devices stop uploading to the cloud. The cloud copy stays readable, and downloadable from the app, for a year after the plan ends, and after that it is kept until you ask us to delete it. If you come back, everything switches on again and the changes waiting on your devices upload.

If KennelKeeper ever closes

Does it run on a Mac, a phone or a tablet?

In a browser, yes: Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox on any of them, and you can add it to a phone's home screen so it opens like an app. The installable desktop app is Windows only for now. We will not list another platform here until that build actually ships.

Ready when you are

Bring the whole program under one roof.

Pedigrees, medical notes, finances and litter records, all on your own device. Start free in your browser. No card, no install, nothing to cancel.
